Confused by cups, ounces, pints and pinches?
Don't own a scale and want to do everything by volume?
Here comes the solution to all your cooking unit conversion issues!

Simply take a picture from a cookbook or a screenshot from a digital source - and the app does all the work for you: it automatically reads the recipe and instantly converts it into your preferred units.

Unlike many other recipe unit converters, Useful Units is smart and also knows about the specific weight of many ingredients. This way, you can convert between volumes and weights seamlessly!

KEY FEATURES:

RECIPE SCANNER & AUTOMATIC TEXT RECOGNITION

A recipe in cookbook or on your favourite blog? Useful Units isn’t picky: Take a picture of the recipe or just load a screenshot of it. Text recognition is automatic! Adjusting or adding ingredients manually is super easy, too.

USEFUL UNITS - TAILORED TO YOU

We all have our favourite units.
Grams, milliliters or liters? Sure.
Cups, pints and pounds? Yes.
Pinches, dashes and drops? Yep, that as well.
Choose the units you like best - and switch between them super easily!

FOREVER FREE

Useful Units is for free and always will be. Of course: You can tip us - as much or as little as you like.

ALL THE UNITS

Currently, the Useful Units Recipe Converter recognizes the following units with most of their common abbreviations:

* Units of Volume: Liters (as well as deciliters, centiliters and milliliters), tablespoons, teaspoons; drops, pinches and dashes as well as sticks (for all things buttery). Furthermore US and Imperial fluid ounces, gills, cups, pints, quarts and gallons.
* Units of Weight: Kilograms (as well as grams and milligrams), pounds, slugs and ounces.

If you think that’s not enough: Let us know!
If you think that’s too many: Never mind! Just don’t select them in the menu and they won't be displayed!

INGREDIENTS DATABASE

Is a cup of salt heavier than a cup of flour? Certainly so!

The Useful Units Recipe Converter knows the density (yay, science!) of more than 300 of the most common baking and cooking ingredients, so you don’t have to worry about these things when converting.

What about all the other ingredients? No problem: Just tell the app what category it belongs to and the app will do the rest for you.

SCALING YOUR RECIPE

Double or quadruple the recipe’s amounts? Sure, just a click.
Throwing a giant party with food for everyone? Great! Just enter your custom scaling factor and that’s it!

LANGUAGES

The Useful Units app is written completely in English.
Yet, it does recognize English and German recipes, units and ingredients.
Would you like to help teaching the app further languages? Get in touch!

We hope this neat little app brings you as much joy while cooking and baking as it does to us!

We are very interested in your feedback. If you have any inputs, questions or concerns, please contact us at [email protected].
